Amazon's Latest Dirty Trick

Yesterday I received an email from Amazon.com in my inbox. The subject line read: "GAMELAND Episodes 1-8. We have recommendations for you..."



Thinking I'd won the Amazon Email Blast Lottery (after all, how many millions of potential customers would this possibly reach?), I happily clicked the message open and, lo and behold, there was my book cover in all it's colorful glory (actually two of my book covers), along with two others they thought I "might like." I was thrilled. I was ecstatic. I was cautiously optimistic.

Writers of the Apocalypse at ZWLB

ApocaCon will feature three authors of the Zombie Apocalypse (ZA) at the Zombie Walk Long Beach on October 27, 2012.

David P. Forsyth's Sovereign Spirit Saga tells of a band of survivors off Long Beach, California, following the ZA in April 2012.

Daniel J. Williams' Mace of the Apocalypse sets the ZA in San Francisco, then takes the reader to Kansas in the sequel, The Value of Jade.

 

Finally, my own series, GAMELAND, sets the events on Long Island.

On Moving Amazon's Mountain: Giving Indies Their Due

Last Thursday, Amazon.com announced a new program for authors, Kindle Serials. They suggested this wonderful new approach to publishing would encourage authors and readers to connect during the creation process and would also, presumably, allow readers to have some input into said process. Despite the fact that the announcement was nearly lost in the hoopla surrounding its presentation of the new Kindle Fire models, it has generated a fair amount of discussion on a number of discussion sites. The handful of Kindle Serials already launched have garnered very good sales and rank well among Amazon's ebook offerings. (See the Kindle Serials press release here)

Completely unmentioned is the role indie authors have played in helping to bring this about.

Firefight in Darkness
by Katie Jennings

As intriguing and unique as was Breath Of Air, Katie Jennings’ 1st book in the Dryad Quartet series (and, incidentally, her debut novel), her second installment, Firefight in Darkness, manages to impress even more. The two books, a contrasting study in both thematic expansion and literary chiasmus, highlights Jennings’ strength and flexibility as a writer.
